The video opens with a line that might sound harsh: never accept failure, because accepting it is the failure. Getting rejected or making a mistake isn't the real failure. The real failure is deciding that this is it, the story ends here.
A company turned you down? Apply to ten more. A relationship didn't work out? Don't shut yourself away and judge everyone because of one small experience. All of us have been rejected at some point. What separates people isn't how many times they fell, it's what they did next.
Obsessed with the outside
Our big mistake is getting obsessed with outside results: the job, the partner, what people think. In the end, though, everything we live through happens inside us. The same rejection can break one person while another laughs it off and keeps going.
What matters is that your spirit stays on fire. Who you love isn't the main thing; what matters is that you can still love. What you do for work isn't a big deal either, as long as you stay productive, keep creating, and do something that feels meaningful to you.
There's no place to arrive
One idea takes a lot of pressure off once it sinks in: there is no final stop. Life is constant seeking, a kind of endless pilgrimage that never delivers you anywhere. That isn't a reason to lose heart. It means there's no final failure either, only the next step.
The real danger comes when you stop, or cling to something and refuse to let go of it: a job, a person, an image of yourself. That's when something inside you dies, even if you look alive from the outside.
Don't make it small
Life is far bigger than your mind can take in. When you judge all of it by one experience, or by one door that closed in your face, you shrink it. And when you shrink life, you shrink yourself along with it.
So the next time you get rejected, try asking yourself: is this a failure, or am I deciding to make it one?
